What do you know about San Saba, TX?

San Saba was first settled by Europeans in 1854 and took its name from the San Saba River. The governor of Spanish Texas named that river in the 18th century because his troops arrived at it on December 5, 1732, the feast of St. Sabbas. At various points, our part of Texas has been the home of the Tonkawa, Apache, Caddoan and Comanche tribes.

This region is rich in deposits of different minerals, including dolomite, limestone and industrial sand and gravel.

Some of the prominent residents of San Saba have included the Oscar-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones; the opera singer Thomas Stewart; and M. King Hubbert, a geologist, who developed the Hubbert Curve, which is used to approximate geological resource production over time.
