Llano was established as part of the creation of Llano County in 1956. A site on the Llano River was selected in an election held beneath an oak tree. Llano was a trading center for many years, a nondescript collection of cabins, small homes and a post office. However, the late 18th century brought the discovery of iron deposits and investment capital from Dallas and beyond. Soon, the city of Llano was booming. A foundry, a power plant, a real-estate concern and other businesses soon followed.
